Karnta Jukurrpa – Women’s Dreaming
The Karnta Jukurrpa – women’s Dreaming Story is from Pikliyi – Vaughan Springs, to the west of Yuendumu. It tells of how a man of Japangardi skin group was waiting and watching for two ‘Karnta’ women, who were making damper out of bush flour ground seeds. The Japangardi wanted to be the ‘lover boy’ for the two ‘Karnta’ women.
The women are depicted in U shapes, as the this is the imprint we leave behind when we sit in the sand.
beside the women are her tools, a digging stick and her coolamon – vessel, for collecting her bush foods. Other elements of the painting depict the travelling lines and terrain of the location.
